Requirements

Two ways to set this up

Option 1: Using iMessage: Use this method to track the locations of your friends, without having to add them to your Apple Family setup.

Option 2: Using Family Setup: While this method requires a bit longer setup than the iMessage method, it’s great for tracking your family members’ locations.

See a friend’s location by requesting their location in the Messages app

Note: While the Find My web app at icloud.com/find lacks a People section, it will display family members’ devices that you can select to get their current location.

Unable to see a person’s location

You may not be able to see the most recent location if a person’s iPhone is:

  • Out of the cellular network area and disconnected from a Wi-Fi network
  • In Airplane mode
  • Has Location Services turned off. To fix this, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and make sure Location Services is on, then tap Share My Location and ensure the switch next to Share My Location is enabled.
